A possible former extractive pit of unknown, but probably post-medieval to early 19th century date was identifiable on aerial photographs of the 1980s as an earthwork roughly 60 metres square on the south-west-facing slopes at Beacon below Hartridge, Luppitt parish.
The possible pit was not explicitly depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map or Tithe Map for Luppitt but the subtle negative earthwork occupied the majority of a former plot (1049 on the Tithe Map), which might support an interpretation of moderate farm-scale extraction, such as gravel.
