A possible former field boundary of between medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork bank on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northwest of Blackhayes Farm. The linear northwest to southeast aligned earthwork appears to broadly respect the historic field patterns here, although has evidently passed out of use by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The digital Parish Tithe map of 1838-48 is incomplete here, so it is not possible to determine whether it was extant by this time. The Historic Landscape Characterisation project has classified this area as comprising ‘Medieval enclosures based on strip fields’.
