A broad but shallow ditch was visible on aerial photographs of 1982 to the south-east of Fair Oak Farm, Upottery. The earthwork was circa 10 metres wide and visible for almost 70 metres. The earthwork falls within a plot depicted as woodland on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map and remained heavily wooded in 1947. The woodland was largely cleared north of north-west to south-east aligned footpath by 1982 revealing the relict earthwork. The ditch might continue further south under the surviving light tree cover that remains in situ. The function of the ditch is unclear but is interpreted as a possible boundary that passed out of use prior to the 19th century.
