Two large irregular earthwork pits, one 24 metres and the other circa 150 metres in length, are visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, and - although somewhat obscured by tree cover - also on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards. They are interpreted as the remains of extractive pits, and the presence of a limekiln depicted on the late-19th century OS maps within the larger pit could suggest that limestone or chalk was extracted here around or earlier than this date.
