A large roughly oval earthwork pit, circa 23 by 30 metres, is visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, and on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards. It is interpreted as the remains of an extractive pit, in common with many similar features in the vicinity. It may have been an earlier phase of extraction to the ‘Old Quarry’ to the south-east depicted on late-19th century mapping (MDV47316), since no features are marked in this location on the 19th century maps.
