A possible former large extractive pit was visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork on aerial photographs on the west-facing slopes of Hense Moor, Luppitt parish. The main body of the pit is approximately 50 metres square and centred on circa ST17760842. The excavations might continue downslope to the southwest, forming a scarp that defines the northern edge of a field to the south. The visible earthworks are located on the edge the interface between mudstone and sandstone and gravels geologies, and it is possible the visible earthworks were partly formed by natural processes and subsequently exploited in the post medieval period.
