A probable former extractive pit was visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards as an irregularly shaped earthwork probably comprised of two conjoined sub-circular pits, measuring approximately 40 by 35 metres in size on the north-west facing slopes to the north of Gould’s Farm, Luppitt parish.
The visible earthwork does not correspond with any features depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, with the exception of a short row of trees, supporting the interpretation that the pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century. The pit was visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010 and probably survives as an earthwork.
