A possible former extractive pit of unknown, but probably medieval to early 19th century date was visible on aerial photographs of the 1980s as a shallow earthwork pit on the south-east-facing slopes west of Meshayes Farm, Luppitt parish.
The earthwork was roughly oval in shape and measured approximately 40 by 25 metres in size. The pit was not depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map and had therefore passed out of use by circa 1880. The location of the pit partly corresponds with a dark cropmark on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010.
