Two possible former small extractive pits of unknown, but probably post-medieval to early 19th century date, were visible on aerial photographs of 1982 as slight earthworks under pasture on the east-facing combe slopes west of Littletown Farm, Luppitt parish.
The pits were roughly oval to circular in shape and measured approximately 20 and 30 metres across. These visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map or Tithe Map for Luppitt; the plot in which the smaller pit is located was depicted as an orchard on the earlier map. The earthworks are therefore probably evidence of prospection or extractive pits that passed out of use prior to the early to mid-19th century.
Very subtle earthworks can be identified on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014.
