A former extractive pit of probably post-medieval to early 19th century date was visible on aerial photographs of 1982 as a shallow earthwork pit on the south-east-facing slopes south-west of Luppitt Inn Farm, Luppitt parish.
The pit was roughly D-shaped and measured approximately 35 by 17 metres in size. The visible earthwork corresponded with an Old Marl Pit annotated on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map. This might support the interpretation that the earthwork had passed out of use prior to the late-19th century.
The former marl pit remained identifiable on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014 and probably survives as an earthwork.
