Summary

Remains of a Medieval or later tinner's hut situated within an area of streamworks on the right bank of the North Teign River. It measures 4.5 metres by 2.8 metres and has was surviving to a maximum height of 0.4 metres. No obvious entrance was recorded.

Full description

Royal Commission for the Historical Monuments of England, 1987-1993, Duchy Farms Project Survey Visit, S. Probert (Report - Survey). SDV350839.

(14/08/1991) SX 64188635. A crudely built tinner's hut situated in an area of extensive streamworks (SX 68 NW 51) on the right bank of the North Teign River. Constructed adjacent to a spoil heap it measures 4.5m N-S by a maximum of 2.8m. The walls consist of roughly coursed boulders and slabs up to 0.4m high. There is no obvious entrance and no identifiable features. None of the stones exhibit drill-splitting evidence. (See RCHME survey 'Shovel Down' at 1:2500 scale).
