A former field boundary was visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards as an earthwork bank on the south-facing slopes of Hartridge north of Beacon village, Luppitt. The visible earthwork did not correspond with any boundary depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map or Tithe Map for Luppitt. Its slightly irregular form might support a medieval date but it could be evidence of post-medieval enclosure based on earlier land holdings. The earthwork is therefore interpreted as a boundary of later medieval or post-medieval date that had passed out of use prior to the mid-19th century.
