Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The earthwork bank did not correspond with any depicted field or woodland boundary.

Ordnance Survey, 1982, OS/82219 V, OS/82219 V 1651-1652 03-SEP-1982 (Aerial Photograph). SDV357675.

A narrow curvilinear bank was visible as an earthwork.

Turner, S.C., 2005 - 2006, Devon Historic Landscape Characterisation Mapping (Cartographic). SDV349122.

This area was probably first enclosed with hedge-banks during the later middle ages. The curving form of the hedge-banks suggests that earlier it may have been farmed as open strip-fields

Next Perspectives, 2010, Aerial Photography for Great Britain, Next Perspectives APGB Imagery ST1606 4-MAY-2010 (Aerial Photograph). SDV359490.

The partial remains of the former boundary were visible as a low earthwork bank.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A narrow earthwork bank was visible on aerial photographs of 1982 on the south-east-facing slopes north of Lake Copse, Luppitt parish. The relict earthwork falls within an enclosure pattern that has been characterised by HLC as being probably based strip fields of medieval date. It also appears to be a continuation of the extant eastern boundary of Lake Copse. The relict earthwork does not correspond with any boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Luppit and is therefore interpreted as the remains of a boundary of medieval origin that was removed prior to circa 1840. Slight earthworks remain visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010.
