HER Number:MDV116772
Name:Earthworks of a Possible Enclosure, west of Sweetlands Farm, Upottery

Summary

Earthwork banks of a possible enclosure of uncertain date are visible as earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1982 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the west of Sweetlands Farm. Whilst these earthworks appear to form part of an enclosure, it is also possible the earthworks simply represent relict field boundaries, which largely passed out of use by the time of the Parish Tithe map.

Earthwork banks of a possible enclosure of uncertain date are visible as earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1982 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the west of Sweetlands Farm. The earthwork banks are curvilinear in shape and appear to form the southeast edge of a possible enclosure, situated on gentle southeast facing slope. The western extent of the earthworks is possibly fossilised as a field boundary on the Parish Tithe map of approximately 1838-48. Whilst these earthworks appear to form part of an enclosure, it is also possible the earthworks simply represent relict field boundaries, which largely passed out of use by the time of the Parish Tithe map.
