An extraction pit of possible post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, on Sandpit Hill. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 80m in length by 34m in width and is located within the site of a copse depicted here on the Parish Tithe map of approximately 1838-48, the copse likely being established within the pit following its abandonment. The location of the earthwork on Sandpit Hill gives good indication as to the likely use of the feature.
