A possible post-medieval to 19th century extraction pit is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northwest of Walnut Lodge. The sub-oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 21m in length by 15m in width and is located alongside an historic field boundary, within an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded during this survey. A number of gravel pits are also depicted in the vicinity here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map, which gives a good indication as to the likely use of this earthwork.
