Extraction pits of post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the north of Rosshayne Farm. The two irregular shaped earthworks measure approximately 34m in length by 24m in width (eastern earthwork) and approximately 44m in length by 24m in width (western earthwork) and are located within the site of a former orchard (MDV48601) depicted here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map, the orchard likely being established here following the abandonment of the pits. A number of gravel pits are also depicted in the immediate vicinity here on this map, which gives a good indication as to the likely use of these earthworks.
