Earthwork banks of probable post-medieval to 19th century date are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the southwest of Walnut Lodge. The earthworks, which are northeast to southwest aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.35 hectares of gentle northeast facing slope, may represent the remains of agricultural improvement or represent the site of a former wood, the banks providing improved drainage and increased soil depth for the trees. Woodland is depicted in the immediate vicinity here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map.
