Earthwork banks of possible former medieval to 19th century field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the west of Sprat’s Copse. The possible field boundaries comprise a single curvilinear east to west aligned bank to the north, with a broadly T-shaped and slightly curvilinear bank to the south of this. The possible field boundaries appear to have passed out of use by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. The digital Parish Tithe map is incomplete here, so it is not possible to determine whether these field boundaries were extant at this time. The Historic Landscape Characterisation project has classified this area as comprising ‘medieval enclosures based on strip fields’.
