An earthwork pit of a possible former post-medieval to 19th century extraction pit is visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northwest of Battens Farm. The sub-oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 34m in length by 24m in width is located in an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded during this survey. An ‘Old marl pit’ is depicted in close proximity here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map which gives good indication as to the likely function of this earthwork.
