Earthwork pits of possible former post-medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northwest of Battens Farm. The three extraction pits are irregular in shape and measure up to 78m in length. The extent of these earthworks are depicted as copses on the Parish Tithe map of 1838-48, the trees likely being established within the extraction pits following their abandonment. The earthworks are located in an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded during this survey.
