Earthwork pits of possible former post-medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1982 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northeast of Ley Farm. The three adjacent extraction pits are irregular and oval in shape and are situated on northeast facing slope, bordering a stream. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of the 1880’s-90’s, the orchard likely being established here following the abandonment of the pits.
