Earthwork pits of possible former medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the south of Lower Moorhayne. The two irregular shaped earthworks both measure approximately 53m in length by 20m in width and are situated either side of an historic field boundary. The earthworks may have originally formed part of a single extraction pit pre-dating this field boundary and so may be of some age. A possible pond is also depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. The earthworks are located in an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded during this survey.
