Earthwork pits of possible former medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the east of Hawthorns House. The two earthworks are situated either side of a road. The eastern of the two is sub-oval in shape and measures approximately 60m in length by 37m in width, whilst the western earthwork is irregular in shape and measures approximately 64m in length by 35m in width. The earthworks are located in an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded during this survey. Whilst the earthworks do appear to be archaeological in origin, it is possible they are of natural origin.
