The possible extraction pit is visible as a shallow earthwork pit.

A shallow depression of a possible former post-medieval to 19th century extraction pit is visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northwest of Hawthorns House. The oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 47m in length by 34m in width and is situated on gentle northeast facing slope, within an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded during this survey. Given its slight nature, however, it is possible this earthwork is also of natural origin.
