Earthwork pits of possible former post-medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the west of Forum Cottages. The two earthworks are situated either side of a road and at a junction with the A30. The eastern of the two is sub-oval in shape and measures approximately 30m in length by 15m in width and is largely obscured by tree cover. That to the west is more irregular in shape, measures approximately 66m in length by 20m in width and is defined by a dotted line on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, so was clearly extant by this time. The earthworks are located in an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded during this survey.
