A possible post-medieval to 19th century earthwork platform with associated cutting is visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the east of Back Allers. The rectangular shaped platform measures approximately 15m in length by 10m in width and appears to be located within a poorly defined, irregular shaped earthwork cutting which measures approximately 24m in length by 18m in width. A partial linear boundary and a cluster of trees are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map and are clearly associated with these earthworks. A monument record of the site of Trenchard’s Cottage (MDV48567) shown on the enclosure award map is located in close proximity here, so is possible the earthwork platform represents the site of this former cottage. The nature of the outer earthwork cutting is, however, less clear.
