Possible former field boundaries of between medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork banks on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northeast of Higher Pithayne. The possible linear boundaries are northwest to southeast and northeast to southwest aligned and are situated on moderate southeast facing slope. The digital Parish Tithe map is incomplete here, so it is not possible to determine whether these field boundaries were extant by this time, although they do appear to have passed out of use by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. The Historic Landscape Characterisation project has classified this area as comprising ‘medieval enclosures based on strip fields’, so could be of medieval date. The earthwork banks should, however, be viewed with some caution and it is possible they are of natural origin.
