Summary

Remains of a building 400 metres north of Emsworthy Rocks adjacent to Haytor Granite Tramway. The structure is sited on a level stance and measures very approximately 15.4m by 5.5m The walls were constructed from mainly small pieces of granite and are ruined to ground level. Although the interior is filled with tumble, internal cross partitions are visible, giving the building four compartments. The building was probably associated with the quarrying activity in the area from 1820 to the 1850s.

(30/05/1999) SX 7516 7724. A ruined rectangular building sited near a bend in the Haytor Granite Tramway Emsworthy (west) branch is probably associated with the quarry activity. The structure is sited on a level stance and measures very approximately 15.4m by 5.5m The walls were constructed from mainly small pieces of granite and are ruined to ground level. Although the interior is filled with tumble, internal cross partitions are visible, giving the building four compartments. The building was probably associated with the quarrying activity in the area from 1820 to the 1850s. For plan see RCHME 1999.
