Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The visible earthworks corresponded in part with depicted field boundaries.

Environment Agency, 1998-2014, LiDAR DTM data (1m resolution), LIDAR ST1004 Environment Agency DTM 01-JAN-1998 to 30-SEP-2014 (Cartographic). SDV359177.

Shallow but broad earthwork ditches or hollows were visible.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

Three intersecting curvilinear earthwork ditches or hollows between 4 and 8 metres wide were visible on digital images derived from lidar data on the north-east facing slopes east of Hill View Farm, Broadhembury village. Two of the visible earthworks corresponded with field boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Broadhembury. The third did not correspond with any depicted boundary and was crossed by the course of the roughly north-west to south-east aligned boundary. This might support the interpretation that the third ditch was evidence of an earlier boundary, possibly medieval in date, superseded by the roughly north-west to south-east aligned boundary. All three earthworks were transcribed for clarity.
