Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The northernmost earthwork corresponds with a small garden plot recorded as 'Ham'.

The earthworks correponds with old marl pits.

Two earthwork depressions are visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The depressions correspond approximately with two 'Old Marl Pit' earthworks depicted on the First Edition OS map, one of which contains a pump. The northernmost depression corresponds approximately with a small plot recorded as 'Ham' on the Tithe Map, under garden usage (Plot 1389).
The depressions are interpreted as marl pits of mid-19th century origin, that ceased extraction by the late-19th century.
