An extraction pit of post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1989 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014, to the northeast of Gladhayes Farm. The oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 60m in length by 45m in width and is located within a copse depicted and labelled here as ‘Pit Copse’ on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, the trees clearly being established within the pit following its abandonment. A number of similar such features have been recorded in the vicinity here during this survey.
