The Atlanta. This British schooner, carrying a cargo of coal, was driven ashore on the back of Pole Sands in 1854 while waiting for a pilot to enter the River Exe. The Atlanta belonged to the port of Exmouth, and was en-route from Hartlepool to Topsham. The NRHE record indicates that the Royal Cornwall Gazette described it as a total wreck after it was driven onto the rocks near the Bar.
