A former extractive pit was visible on images derived from digital elevation data captured in 2006 and Google Earth images of 2006 as a roughly circular earthwork up to circa 70 metres across on the south-west facing slopes below Sidling Common, east of Wolverstone village, Awliscombe parish.
The pit is not depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map or Tithe Map for Awliscombe parish and the apportionment describes this plot (66) as pasture. This supports the interpretation that the pit had passed out of use prior to the 1840s. It is located on mudstone bedrock which might support an interpretation as a marl pit, possibly for agricultural use from the medieval period onwards.
