Turner, S.C., 2005 - 2006, Devon Historic Landscape Characterisation Mapping (Cartographic). SDV349122.

This area has been characterised as probably first enclosed with hedge-banks during the later middle ages. The curving form of the hedge-banks suggests that earlier it may have been farmed as open strip-fields.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A linear earthwork hollow or ditch and separate bank were visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s and digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014, on the east-facing slopes to the south-east of Aller farm, Awliscombe parish.
The visible earthworks correspond with field boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Awliscombe, but not on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of the late 19th century.
The surrounding field pattern has been characterised by HLC as probably based on strip fields and enclosed in the later medieval period, but the regular nature of the relict boundaries is more characteristic of boundaries of post-medieval date. As such, the earthworks are interpreted as the remains of former field boundaries of probable post-medieval date that passed out of use by the late 19th century.
