An irregular earthwork cutting is visible on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, just to the south of Blackhakes. It defines a level area to the north and may have resulted from shallow but extensive extractive activity. A very small section of the earthwork corresponds to the south side of a small field depicted on the late-19th century mapping, and could suggest that extraction post-dates the disuse of this field boundary in the 20th century.
