Full description

Stanbrook, M., 1991, Old Dartmoor Schools Remembered, 69-72 (Monograph). SDV359884.

Listed in the account books for the Widecombe and Dartmoor Charity Schools, is Venton, where 10 children were taught by Ann Smerdon from 1796 until 1812, when Martha Cleave took over. In 1824 the school moved to Dunstone, still with Martha Cleave as mistress.
