Possible tree-planting banks of a former post-medieval to 19th century orchard are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, at Stafford Barton. Orchards are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. These orchards remain covered in fruit trees in 1947, although slight traces of earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, are visible. By 1982, large areas of these orchards have been completely cleared. The earthwork banks are northwest to southeast aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.35 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope.
