A possible extraction pit of post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, at Lane End Farm. The broadly D-shaped earthwork measures approximately 55m in length by 51m in width and abuts a road along its western edge. The site of the extraction pit is depicted as an orchard on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, the orchard likely being established within the pit following its abandonment. The incidence of orchards established within dis-used extraction pits has been a common theme throughout this project. The earthwork was not visible on aerial photographs owing to dense tree cover here.
