'Holne Chase Tin Mine (Disused)' shown on 19th century map. Several walls shown on 19th century map may delineate the stamping area to the west of the tail race.

Site visited on 11th March 1981. The dressing floor of Holne Chase Tin Mine, on south bank of River Dart. Overgrown, and trampled by animals: identifiable features include a rectangular reservoir, a large leat, wheelpit and tail race, three round buddles, a large round buddle with central boss, three rectangular settling pits with four more near the river. Plan on worksheet. Probably 19th century.

Holne Chase Tin Mine stamping mill and dressing floor on a level area on the south side of the River Dart. The dressing plant covered approximately 1 hectare and contained a wheelpit, six round buddles, eleven rectangular pits, a large pond and a ruined building. The small stamping area (a) to the north of the wheelpit consists of a slightly lowered levelled area with traces of revetment along one of its scarped edges. It was too small being 5.3 metres by 13 metres to have accommodated more than eight of stamps. After crushing the pulp was probably collected within the area marked by a 16 metre long and 2.8 metre wide channel (d) edged with a stone wall on the east side and running parallel to the tail race. At the northern end of the channel is the probable tailings pit (e) which is approximately 15 metres long by 5 metres wide and up to 1 metre deep with sloping sides. At the northern end is a narrow stone lined sluice channel (f) for releasing water into the tail race to flow back to the river.
