A group of possible extraction pits of likely post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, within Pen Point Wood. The three adjacent earthworks are sub-oval in shape, measure between 26m to 40m in length and are situated on the steep east facing slopes of a combe. There is, however, some uncertainty as to the origin of these earthworks and it is also possible they are the result of natural erosion. The earthworks were not clearly visible on aerial photographs or other digital images made available to the survey owing to thick tree cover here.
