Extraction pits of possible Roman to early medieval ironstone open cast mines are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the south of Beechwood Farm. The three sub-oval shaped earthworks measure between 22m to 34m in length and are located in close proximity to a dense concentration of open cast mines to the northwest. The southern of the three earthworks is depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map.
