An irregular shaped pit circa 115m by 62 metres in size was visible on aerial photographs of 1947 and digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016 as an earthwork pit, to the northeast of Bowerwood Farm. The extraction pit is depicted as a copse on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, suggesting the trees were likely established within the pit following its abandonment.
