HER Number:MDV117580
Name:Earthwork mound, north of Hanger Farm, Broadhembury

Summary

An earthwork mound of uncertain origin is visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the north of Hanger Farm. It is possibly the result of some modern agricultural activity, such as a spoil heap, or equally the spoil from post-medieval to 19th century extraction, or an unlikely prehistoric barrow.

An earthwork mound of uncertain origin is visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the north of Hanger Farm. The circular shaped earthwork is fairly well defined on lidar imagery, measures approximately 20m in diameter and is situated on gentle to moderate southwest facing slope. It is possible that this earthwork is the result of some modern agricultural activity, such as a spoil heap, or could equally represent the spoil from post-medieval to 19th century extraction. Whilst barrow-like in appearance, its situation on the moderate slopes here would appear to suggest otherwise.
