Name: | Enclosure within Headland Warren, North Bovey |
---|
Summary
An isolated 0.065 hectare sub-rectangular enclosure at the eastern head of the Redwater valley, associated with Headland Warren. The enclosure is first recorded on a map of 1797 together with six similar examples in the Redwater and West Webburn valleys. Their purpose has been the subject of much debate but they are likely to have been used for trapping and harvesting rabbits. The enclosure is an approximate rectangle of 40m by 13m with rounded corners. The southern portion is built into the floor of a large tinwork, for which the west and east walls descend the slope to meet it. The walls are constructed in moorstone using a drystone tradition and are now partly collapsed. The interior is slightly raised.
