Chope, R. P., 1924 - 1925, Trappist Monks at Yeovale, 252-253 (Article in Serial). SDV12356.

Suggested that Yeovale was once the home of Trappist monks.


Rouge et Noir, 1924 - 1925, Trappist Monks at Yeovale, 305-6 (Article in Serial). SDV12357.

Author says that Yeovale could never have been the home of Trappist monks. They split from the Cistercians in 1664 and first came to England in 1792 at which time Yeovale was owned by Rev H. Morrison who had bought it from the Bruton family in 1769.

Yeovale House, remains of mansion.
Visited 17/12/1953. The only apparent remains of a former house a Tudor type castellated porch of stone with decorated round headed arch, have been incorporated into the centre of west side of a large Georgian house now derelict. Other details: Photograph.

18th century house faced in stucco. Of two storeys and sash windows with pointed Gothic glazing bars. Central portion on east side consists of a castellated 15th century tower, the gatehouse of a 15th century mansion. The interior is said to have been gutted and ampty for 12 years. Grade II Listed.
