Two earthwork pits, between 38 and 54 metres in maximum width, are visible on aerial photographs taken from the 1940s onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. They are depicted on the Tithe map, the largest circa 20 metres to the south-west of the smaller is depicted with a dashed line, and the smaller as a stippled area that suggests an extractive pit. They had gone out of use by the late-19th century when they were both depicted on the OS mapping as trees and scrub. The larger is named ‘Pit Close’ on the late-19th century maps and they are interpreted as the remains of early-19th century extractive pits that fell out of use by the late-19th century.
