Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

An irregular earthwork pit, up to circa 85-38 metres, is visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. It is interpreted as the remains of an extractive pit that was abandoned by the late-19th century, this area being depicted as broadleaf woodland on the late-19th century mapping. It may have been for sand extraction, given the ‘Old Sand Pit’ depicted less than 100 metres to the east on the late-19th century OS mapping. Vegetation obscures the ground surface on the available aerial photographs.
