Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.
A shallow linear ditch 10 metres wide and up to circa 135 metres long was visible on digital images derived from lidar data of 1998 to 2014 as an earthwork on the east-facing combe slope east of Cheriton Farm, Payhembury parish. The ditch does not correspond with any field boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Payhembury or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map and was therefore probably removed prior to the mid-19th century. It falls within a field system that has been characterised by HLC as post-medieval enclosure but is more likely to be of medieval origin, probably based on strip fields.
