An irregular earthwork pit, up to 100 by 80 metres in size, is visible on aerial photographs taken from 1976 and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. It is not depicted on any of the available historic maps, but is crossed by several field boundaries, suggesting that the pit was established before the fields and could be medieval in origin. It is interpreted as the remains of an extractive pit that was abandoned by the late-19th century.
